Drawing of fireplace and shelves in the drawing room, 6 Florentine Terrace, Glasgow 1906

AtH inscr. b.l. "6 Florentine Terrace. Hillhead. / Scale Drawing of Fireplace & shelves / for back part of Drawing Room"; other notes and measurements DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928) See GLAHA 41832. The upper part of the design shows detailing for panelling in the stairwell between first and second floors. In the lower part is a proposal for the studio fireplace. Fireplaces were an important focal point in a Mackintosh interior. Here Mackintosh made it an integral part of the wall plane by fitting shelving either side and adding a decorative panel above. This drawing was probably done to Mackintosh's specification by an assistant in the Honeyman, Keppie & Mackintosh practice.
