Here we have trench art created by my grandfather John Rickerby from 1915. The pieces are interesting in themselves as they are pictures of the French countryside carved into unexploded shells, with one of them also having bullet shells welded on to the bottom as legs. They also have “souvenir de la guerre” carved on them in calligraphy a feat impressive both for its learning and its artistry. My …
