On August 5th, 1914, the architecture student Max Klawitter, just 20 years old, registered with Königlich Preuss. Substitute commission of the district of Essen as a war volunteer. Then train ride to Cuxhafen. Card to the parents: "Arrived here happily, about 1 p.m. to Bremen. Have experienced great reception at all train stations, HEIL and VICTORY, your Max."
