A View Of Governors Residence In The Botanic Garden, St Vincent
Description: Plate from Frederick Bayley's 'Four Years Residence in the West Indies,' depicting the Governor's residence on the island of St. Vincent. In 1762 the Governor, General Melville, gave 20 acres of land to be landscaped into botanical gardens for the cultivation of medicinal plants. Doctor George Young, the principal medical officer on the island, was the first to be responsible for them.
