Advert For Holt's Lightning Hay Knife
Description: This is an advertisement for Holt's hay knife. During the 19th century, agricultural farming in Britain underwent tremendous change. At the start of the period agriculture was very labour intensive. Everything was done by hand; sowing, reaping, turning and gathering hay took a long time and that was just one of the jobs to be done. Tools like Hay's Lightening Hay Knife would have been very useful. By the end of the century mechanisation had begun, machines could do the job of 5 men in half the time, and railways had been developed making the transportation of produce much easier and faster.
