This image depicts the Chief of an ethnic group of tribesmen - called by the European colonists 'Bosjesmans' or 'Bush negroes' - visiting the Governor of Paramaribo (in Surinam). Waller was an eminent surgeon who travelled to the Caribean in 1807.
