Description: With his original ideas, the world-renowned Slovenian pioneer of astronautics Herman Potočnik Noordung made a significant contribution to the development of astronautics. In his book "The Problem of Space Travel - The Rocket Motor", he suggests a brilliant solution to the problems of spaceflight and man living in space. As the author of geostationary satellites and space stations that are floating weightlessly in orbit around Earth he eventually earned a global reputation. He designed his space station as a rotating wheel with an artificial gravity, created by the centrifugal force. Another important invention is the cylindrical observatory connected to the station. He anticipated the importance of Earth observation from space for cartographic, weather and military purposes. The German-American rocket expert Werner von Braun (1912-1977) and other members of the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsvillu used his ideas on building a spacecraft and Braun regarded Potočnik as "undoubtedly one of the space pioneers who contributed a lion's share to the realization of the space program" and his book as "a historical turning point for rocket science." The first geostationary communications satellite Syncom 1, built according to his ideas, was launched in 1963. He also greatly influenced the birth of science-fiction literature (Arthur Charles Clarke: Space Odyssey, etc.) and movies (Pavel Klushantsev: The Road to the Stars (1957), Stanley Kubrick: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), 2010: A Space Odyssey (1982 ), etc.), where we can find his concepts from the very beginning.; Svetovno znan slovenski pionir astronavtike Herman Potočnik Noordung je pomembno prispeval k razvoju astronavtike s številnimi izvirnimi zamislimi. V knjigi Das Problem der Befahrung des Weltraums: der Raketen-Motor je razkril genialne rešitve za prodor ter bivanje človeka v vesolju. Kot avtor geostacionarnega satelita in vesoljske postaje, ki lebdita na breztežnostni krožnici okrog Zemlje, je sčasoma pridobil svetoven sloves. Vesoljsko postajo si je zamislil v obliki vrtečega se kolesa, v kateri bi vzpostavil s pomočjo sredobežnosti umetno gravitacijo. Pomembna Potočnikova iznajdba je tudi valjasti observatorij, ki je povezan s postajo. Predvidel je tudi pomembnost opazovanja Zemlje iz vesolja za kartografske, vremenske in vojaške namene. Potočnikova dognanja so med drugim uporabljali pri grajenju vesoljskih plovil nemško-ameriški raketni strokovnjak Werner von Braun (1912–1977) in ostali sodelavci v Marchall Space Flight Centru v Huntsvillu. Braun je poudaril, da Potočnik »sodi nedvomno med vesoljske pionirje, ki so prispevali k realizaciji vesoljskega programa levji delež« in »da je bila njegova knjiga zgodovinska prelomnica v svetovni vesoljski raketni tehniki«. Prvi geostacionarni komunikacijski satelit Syncom 1, ki je nastal po Potočnikovi zamisli, so izstrelili leta 1963. S pomočjo njegovih zamisli je Braun skonstruiral med 2. svetovno vojno tudi nemški daljinski raketi V1 in V2. Pomembno je vplival tudi na oblikovanje znanstveno-fantastične literature (Arthur Charles Clarke: Vesoljska Odiseja, …) in filmov (Pavel Klušancev: Pot k zvezdam (1957), Stanley Kubrick: 2001: Vesoljska Odiseja (1968), 2010: Vesoljska Odiseja (1982), …), kjer se v samem začetku srečujemo z njegovimi koncepti.
