Mate sextant
Description: The sextant has a grey-lacquered alloy three-circle pattern frame and a wooden handle. The white plastic micrometer drum, pressure clamp and a worm screw are located on the back of the index arm. The instrument has four shades, which can be moved into place when observing in bright conditions. It has three green and one grey, and three horizon shades, one grey and two green. Index-glass adjustment is made by a screw and on the horizon glass by capstan screws. Attached to the sextant is a non-adjustable threaded telescope bracket. The telescope is 76 mm in length with a star finder and an erect image. A shaded eyepiece and an adjusting pin are missing. The instrument has an aluminium scale measuring from -5° to 125° by 1°, measuring to 122°. Micrometer to 0.2 arcminutes. The sextant is contained in a square fitted wooden box, with a Kelvin Hughes certificate of examination in the lid, dated 29 April 1970.
