Description: Page 249, 'Men and Women of Mark in Modern Judea' album of newspaper cuttings (c 1892-1911) compiled by E de Haas. Contains 3 cuttings relating to the Kishinev Massacres. The Kishinev massacre occurred on 19/20 April 1903. 47 Jews were killed, with 92 severely, and 500 slightly, injured. Great material losses were inflicted on the Jewish community - 700 houses were destroyed, and 600 shops were pillaged, ruining 2000 families. It was a major 'push factor' in immigration from the Jewish Pale of Settlement.
