Michael O'Kelly, my father, was born on 8/9/1894 in Dublin. He joined the Connaught Rangers on 8/11/1912. He was involved in the Battle of Mons and was gassed in the trenches which left life-long respiratory problems. He died of pneumonia aged 36 on 12/01/1932. Michael was wounded at Mons in the left forearm. He was sent back to St. Michaels Hospital in Dunleary and was operated on. He was discharged from the army, entered the civil service and married on return. I brought medals, badges (harp and Connaught Rangers), a photograph (undated, no location ,Michael is in the middle row, 4th from left), another photograph of a staging of Napoleon and Josephine (he was Josephine!) at Brampton Hospital where he was sent before Dunleary, a newspaper report of the play, a discharge ticket dated 18/12 1916, army documentation including details of discharge, scroll of discharge and soldier's small book.
