Photo of Rose Cassidy, an Irish staff nurse in the Queen Alexandra military corps and colleagues | James Cassidy (musician)
Photograph of Rose Cassidy from Co. Donegal, and nursing colleagues
This is a photo of my aunt, Rose Cassidy. She was a nurse in the Queen Aexandra military corps. She was from Co. donegal. I think the photo was taken in Cranwell near London. She trained in a hospital in East London that must have been taken over by the army. She isgned up in 1917. She didn't talk alot about the war. She never served in France. In 1918 she applied for a transfer to Dublin to King George V military hospital. This was turned down but she was able to arrange a swop with a nurse of the same rank who wanted to move to London. They both paid their own way! Her contract expired on 17/11/1918, the day before the war ended and she was asked to take a post with the RAF after the war, but she declined for family reasons. She was proud of her career but never boasted about it, possibly because of the political situation in Ireland at the time. This is the only photo I have of her.
