This codex is a part of the precious Galileo collection. In 1822 the collection, after many different events, was sold by the Nelli to the Grand Duke Ferdinando III. He acquired the collection for the Palatina Library and provided for its rearrangement with his wife Maria Luisa and the Prince Leopoldo, who was personally interested in science. The collection includes Galileo's autographical works and other autographs of those, mostly scientists, who were important in his education, studies and scientific heritage.
