Baby Harry and his parents, Sergeant Harold and Ada.
A photograph of a British sergeant and his family.
A real photographic postcard
Although the details of the photographer’s studio in which this photograph was taken are not given, a handwritten message on the reverse provides at least the first names of the family pictured: ‘With Love From Ada, Harold & Harry’, it says. Sitting on his mother Ada’s lap, baby Harry stares wide-eyed at the viewer. Harold, his soldier–father, is wearing a ring on his wedding finger, while the three stripes on his left arm inform us that he has attained the rank of sergeant.
