'Oh Lord, take care of Kitchener.'

A British comic postcard.

Description

    • A British comic postcard.
    • ‘A.E.’, the initials of the artist who created the scene printed on the front of this postcard, can be seen above the discarded shoes and socks on the right. A small boy is depicted kneeling by his bedside, praying beneath a portrait of ‘LORD KITCHENER’ (Secretary of State for War from 1914 to 1916). The text below reads, ‘“OH LORD, TAKE CARE OF KITCHENER, FOR IF ANYTHING SHOULD HAPPEN TO HIM, WE’D HAVE NOBODY TO LOOK AFTER US BUT THE DAILY MAIL.’ On the reverse, the printed details state: ‘W. & K. London, E.C. Series No. 3614C British Manufature.’ (‘W. & K.’ stands for ‘Wildt & Kray’.)
