John Doolan Private 28004 Royal Dublin Fusiliers, Machine gun corp 160104 born Thomastown Co. Kilkenny Ireland 1896 joined up October 1916. Drafted to France January 1917 to join with the 8th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers. Saw action at Messines Ridge June 7th 1917. Wounded 16th August 1917 in an attempt to capture Borry Farm. Rejoined his unit late October at Yprs, transferred to the 1st Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers. 15th of June 1918 transferred to the Machine gun corp. Later part of the Army of Occupation of the Rhine in Cologne with the 29th division. Demobbed 18th November 1918, returned to Thomastown where he died in 1973. Received Victory medal and British medal.
