Letter from Henry McGrane to his sister Molly, 1915 and photograph
Letter from Henry McGrane to his sister Molly, 1915 and photograph of him
1 letter from Henry McGrane to his sister Molly, 16 July 1915 1 Photograph of Henry McGrane (on right)
My father Henry McGrane was born on 15 January 1893. His discharge papers suggest that he worked before the war. I am not sure as what, but possibly as a gardener. I am almost sure that he enlisted in 1915; definitely it was not before the war. He was involved in Sulva Bay, Turkey, and was injured there at Chocolate Hill. He probably had some injury leave after this. Later, at Gallipoli he was shot in the shin bone. This injury eventually had him discharged. He married my mother, his second wife, in 1941. The letter is to his sister Molly, dated 16 July 1915, and was written on a ship. He is asking for cigarettes. The photograph is of unkonwn date and location. My father is on the right.
