Hugh Coburn's story. Hugh Coburn, born 1884 son of Cornelius and Catherine, emigrated from Dungooley, Kilcurry, Dundalk, Co. Louth Ireland to USA some time between 1901 and 1911. He entered service in US Army in New Jersey, joining the 7th Engineer Regiment 5th Infantry Division. He was sent to Europe to serve on the Western Front. He was killed in action on 14 October 1918. Hugh Coburn is the maternal grand uncle of contributor. His sister always had his picture on her wall and was always upset that she did not know where he was buried. His grand neice discovered in 2002 that he was buried in Muese-Argonne American Cemetary in Eastern France and that his division had fought in the Muese-Argonne offensive and had suffered heavy losses. He is also remembered on the family grave in Bridge-a -Crin.
