George Ewart Evans interviews W.J. Collyer (known as John) of St. Lawrence Green, Beccles. He reminisces on being a "back'us" (back-house or kitchen) boy, fishing boats and working on them, threshing, and fishing during German bombardment of Lowestoft (Oct. 1914), commandeering by Royal navy for war service, small boat naval service in First World War, cross-channel boom defences (also mentions 'Fleet [i.e flat or shallow] waters'), post-war farming and farm equipment.
